These frilly Japanese gothic's music of choice, for the visuals and sometimes the sounds, is a version of Heavy Metal with gothic hints. Visual Kei or Visual Rock is a form of Japanese pop rock music where the musicians dress in elaborate costumes & dresses. Anything from a twinge of glam to full blown female impersonation can be called Visual Rock. These artists feel they must dress up to act out their music. X Japan seems to be the band that started it all. Visual Rock is a blanket term that encompasses J-Rock or J-Pop. J-Rock is not usually the music Gothic Lolita’s listen to. J-Rock is very influenced by the American Heavy Metal Glam bands like Motley Crue.

How to Dress Kinderwhore, Like Courtney Love

Courtney Love's kinderwhore style is easy and cheap to copy, and it looks hot! I'm talking Love 10 or so years ago, she doesn't look so good anymore....

Steps

1. First, the hair and make up- Bleached blonde hair! It should look like you just got out of bed; the easiest way to achieve this is to go to bed without your hair tied up and don't brush it or mess with it before you go out. Maybe rub some 'tigi bed head' on it, and wear a sweet headband ( fake flowers are good), bow hair clips or a tiara.

2. Make up should be smudgy - again, like you just got out of bed. Lots of eyeliner, mascara, dark eyeshadow & pale skin. The lips are very important- RED lipstick, smudgy and definitely not neat!

3. Clothes- mostly ripped and/or dirty babydoll dresses or slips, with torn tights and leather boots. Charity & thrift dress shops are a great place to go, or occasionaly things come up on ebay.

Tips

* Image google ' Courtney Love', or watch Hole music videos for inspiration.

* Don't bother spending alot, or buying designer clothes. That's not the point.

* For the lipstick- get a nice, bright red. Just smear it on and rub it around abit. Don't go overboard, you don't want it ALL OVER your face, just smudged around the mouth.

* Heavy, big boots. New Rocks are good but expensive- you can find much cheaper boots in thrift stores or on ebay. Cheap, brightly colored high heels are good too.

* Use a cigarette to burn holes in tights/clothes ( carefuly)

* Some people can do this look, others can't. If you can't, you risk looking pretty stupid.
